TURKEY TROT
November 17, 2012
Our event was Saturday, right smack in the middle of that big fat rain storm - it still turned out great. The highlight of the event was a celebrity turkey - Mike Manshardt made a turkey costume, which he paraded around in the entire time.
Even though it was a windy, rainy day, we had over 600 registered and over 350 who actually participated. The top male runner was Luis Zuniga and the top female runner was Leanne Jarvis. The award for the biggest team went to team "Turkey Trouble"
Special Thanks to the Early Risers Kiwanis of Yuba City who cooked a wonderful hot breakfast, in the rain, to Fleet Feet & Corner Bike Shop, Grocery Outlet and Cost Vida, for donating wonderful raffle prizes and to Sutter Medical Foundation, Colusa Casino and many others for their generous sponsorships. Thanks, also to the 60+ volunteers who helped to make this annual event a success. And, SPECIAL thanks to our celebrity guest, Mr. Turkey, who braved the wind and rain to start the race.
Timed results are posted on the Underthesunevents.com website.

TURKEY TROT - 2011
Saturday, November 19th, near 700 runners and walkers, from infants to tough folks in their 70’s, including an interesting assortment of those furry and 4-legged, braved the cold clear morning to conquer the 3.1 mile Turkey Trot course. The event, held at River Valley High School, raised nearly $5,000 for Hands of Hope. Equally important, the Turkey Trot continued a reputation of being a fun time for all, reinforcing community awareness of the wonderful services that Hands of Hope provides to our area’s homeless.
A complete hot breakfast was served by the Yuba City Early Riser’s Kiwanis, including yogurt provided by Chobani. Nearly a hundred volunteers donated time to make the event a success, including our timer, Rick Browning, Coach Paul Odegard, tunes and sound system by Wes Peterson and numerous others who helped with planning, managing registration, directing traffic and runners and those who helped at the finish line.
The coveted Turkey Trot Award for the event’s largest team this year went to
