December 15, 2009 to April 15, 2010
On Nov. 3, the Family Emergency Winter Shelter project was approved by the City Council of Yuba City. The City of Yuba City is providing the old Firehouse Station on Walton Ave for overnight sheltering. Hands of Hope will serve as the portal site for families. Once guests are screened at HOH they can store their belongings here, take a bed roll and then be transported to the firehouse. They will be served a warm meal and giving sleeping accommodations for the evening. The next morning they will be given breakfast to take with them and returned to HOH. The goal is to provide safe warm shelter seven days a week from December 15, 2009 to April 15, 2010.
HOH is recruiting volunteers for the portal responsibilities as well as overnight supervisors at the firehouse. The Yuba Sutter Christian Ministerial Association will recruit churches for meals and transportation.
